Forget trying to emulate your favorite celebrity’s looks, there’s a new style trending called: BJD, Ball jointed doll.
Venus Angelica is a 15-year-old girl from London, England who enjoys doing her make-up so that she appears to look like a living doll.
The living doll has been doing her make-up like this for two years, and after awhile people wanted some tips on how they could reproduce the same look. “Some people were asking me, ‘how do you do your make-up?’ and I decided to put a tutorial on YouTube,” she told the cast of RightThisMinute.
In the beginning of one of her videos Angelica explains, “An inspiration to create this make-up was a doll itself.”
During her tutorials, Angelica gives some helpful hints to viewers, “We want the difference between product color and natural color to be seen as it creates a doll like skin.”
When she is in full doll make-up and “frilly” clothes, in addition to resembling a doll she also looks like a Japanese Anime character, which is popular in comic book culture.
If you listen to Angelica speak in her YouTube videos it sounds like she has a strong accent, but Angelica explains that she speaks five languages so all of the accents from the five languages mix together and produce a unique voice.
She has been asked if doing her make-up to make herself look like a doll was just a phase, but she denies that it is something she will outgrow. Angelica explains, “I think that I will grow in my style and keep on doing what I love.”
