Before announcing some exciting news, Will Ferrell went on quite the entertaining rant on “Conan.”
Ferrell in true ‘Anchorman’ style, entered the “Conan” stage playing a flute and wearing a burgundy suit. “Just go under the knife,” he urged Conan after insulting almost everything about him.
Surprisingly, his hilarious insults were hardly the most exciting part of the show, instead it was Ferrell’s big announcement.
“I want to announce this to everyone here in the Americas. To my friends, in Spain, Turkey and the U.K., including England,” Ferrell said. “As of 0900 Mountain Time, Paramount Pictures and myself, Ronald Joseph Aaron Burgundy, have come to terms on a sequel for ‘Anchorman.'”
“It is official, there will be a sequel to ‘Anchorman,'” he said.
That’s right, Ferrell will reprise his role of newsman Ron Burgundy. And we’ll be seeing Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Christina Applegate, David Koechner Chris Parnell and Fred Willard once again in their best 70s newsroom attire.
Rumors of a possible sequel were reportedly first confirmed in 2008 but it was noted that the movie was just in the planning stages.
“Anchorman 2” is set for a 2013 release and according to MTV, Ferrell and McKay will once again co-write for the sequel and McKay will direct again.
The original movie, “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” first hit theaters in 2004 and became quite the hit. The film went on to make $90.6 million worldwide after making $28.4 million its opening weekend. It even made Bravo’s 100 Funniest Movies list.
The movie followed Burgundy in the 1970s as he tried his best to deliver the news while clashing with his female counterpart Veronica Corningstone, played by Applegate, at a San Diego TV station.
Following the success of the first film, a companion film called “Wake Up, Ron Burgundy: The Lost Movie” was was released. The movie was released straight-to-DVD in late 2004 and was assembled from outtakes from the original film.
Check out Ferrell’s big announcement.
