Sunday night television usually proves boring for most of the year, for “Game Of Thrones” fans at least. But this past Sunday, the beloved characters were brought back to life with the premiere of Season 2.
The episode brought back fan favorites like Arya Stark, a runaway who is the target of the folks at King’s Landing, as well as blonde bombshell Daenerys, who introduced viewers to her three new pet dragons and is dead set on taking back the iron throne, that once belonged to her father.
The episode named “The North Remembers” also introduced viewers to newcomers like Stannis Baratheon who shared his goal to take the throne after his brother King Robert died, as well as priestess Melisandre, who is seen leading a chant on the beach in front of burning statues of gods, she says, “The dead shall rise in the North, for the night is long and full of terrors.”
The episode may have proved confusing for first time “Game Of Thrones” viewers. In the previous freshman season of the HBO show, viewers were left with King Robert’s death along with his Hand Ned Stark’s death. Robert’s illegitimate son, Joffrey took the iron throne and rumors were spreading that he was the product of incest between his mother and her brother.

During Sunday night’s episode, King Joffrey is just as cruel as he was last season. On his name day, he almost kills a man for being drunk but is stopped by his wife-to-be Sansa Stark. In another scene, Joffrey gets fresh with his mother Cersei, questioning if the incest rumors are true. She slaps him to which Joffrey warns, “Hitting the king is punishable by death,” and says it will be the last time she does it.
Jon Snow resurfaces in the premiere episode, and he is beyond the wall, where he meets Craster. He quickly learns that the wildling is a firm believer of incest too and keeps all of his daughters as his wives. He proves very protective of them after warning the group that they must not speak to any of them and even threatens Jon for just looking at them too long.
The episode ends with the massacre of the late King Robert’s bastard children. All are killed off, except one. The one remaining bastard of Robert, Gendry, is seen heading North with Arya Stark, who runs away after her father Ned is beheaded at Joffrey’s command. “He’s a traitor,” cruel Joffrey says in one scene.
For some, what the new season holds may not be a surprise as the 10 episode season is based on the second book from George R.R. Martin’s best-selling book series A Song of Ice and Fire. For others, each episode is met with intense excitement and results in surprise plot twists.
Next Sunday’s episode is named “The Night Lands.” SPOILER ALERT:
“In the wake of a bloody purge in the capital, Tyrion chastens Cersei for alienating the king’s subjects. On the road north, Arya shares a secret with Gendry, a Night’s Watch recruit. With supplies dwindling, one of Dany’s scouts returns with news of their position. After nine years as a Stark ward, Theon Greyjoy reunites with his father Balon, who wants to restore the ancient Kingdom of the Iron Islands. Davos enlists Salladhor Saan, a pirate, to join forces with Stannis and Melisandre for a naval invasion of King’s Landing,” reads the episode description.
