Coram Woman Dies After Head-on Crash In Medford

A woman died after swerving into oncoming traffic Sunday.

According to Suffolk County Police, at 12:06 p.m., Maria Nunez, 82 of Coram was driving her Ford Focus northbound on Route 112 in Medford when her car crossed into the southbound lane and struck a Chevrolet Tahoe in front of 2944 Route 112.

Nunez was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the Chevrolet, Edward Montalvo, 41, of Coram, his wife Karen, 36, and their two children ages 4 and 7, were also transported to Brookhaven Memorial Medical Center  for non-life threatening injuries.

Both vehicles were impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.
