Joshua Ledet let the world know he was in it to win it with an amazing performance of “It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World” on American Idol this week.
Ledet, a fan favorite and judge favorite, took the stage in a steel-colored suit fit with a red ascot, singing the lyrics made famous by James Brown.
“This is a man’s world, this is a man’s world, but it wouldn’t be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl,” sang Ledet while on the American Idol stage.”You see, man made the cars to take us over the road, man made the trains to carry heavy loads, man made electric light to take us out of the dark, man made the boat for the water, like Noah made the ark.”
As he ended his dramatic performance, waving his hands, the audience and judges gave him a standing ovation.
While the audience continued to clap, the judges, clearly impressed once again, interrupted. “Neither man nor woman has ever sang that good or with that much compassion on this show, ever,” Steven Tyler said as the audience continued to clap for Ledet. “I can go home right now. I never heard anything like that in my life.”
Jennifer Lopez said she thought she had seen everything he had to give and noted that they knew he could interpret a song but said “We hadn’t.” She added “That was sickening.”
“I think it’s the greatest song for you,” said Randy Jackson, “I think it’s one of the best performances in the history of any singing show including ours.”
While Ledet definitely proved he wasn’t leaving anytime soon by his stellar performance, another contestant made the statement through her lyrics. Teen contestant Jessica Sanchez performed “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going.” She too managed to impress the judges once again, who stood up as she finished her performance.
“Another winning performance,” said Steven Tyler. “Just over the top.” Jennifer Lopez added that Sanchez has a rare voice that is not easy to find every day while Randy Jackson referred to the 16-year-old as a phenomenon.
