The three: Joshua Ledet, Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips took the stage with three performances each, in hopes to impress America enough to vote them through to the final round.

One of the fan favorites, Phillip Phillips, stayed on top despite two mediocre performances.  He performed Madcon’s “Beggin” and Matchbox 20’s “Disease,” which didn’t really go over well with the judges or audience.

Jennifer Lopez was unhappy with his performance and reportedly said, “We’ll see what you’ve got next” after he completed “Disease.”

Steven Tyler agreed. “I feel the same way she did,” he said. “It wasn’t over the top; it was Phillip Phillips.”

But his rendition of Bob Seger’s “We’ve Got Tonight” brought him back to life and apparently was his most impressive yet, according to one judge. “Turn on the light, come take my hand now, we’ve got tonight babe,” he sang as the crowd went wild. “Why don’t you stay?”

Randy Jackson noted that it was his best performance yet and that it was a “perfect song at the perfect time.” The other judges agreed, he was on fire.

Lopez even mentioned the massive amount of female fans he had. “There are about 20 million girls out there who wish you were singing that song to them,” she said.

Tyler explained that what made Phillips’ performance so special was his passion. “You just showed you got all that passion inside of you and it doesn’t matter if you hit the notes or not its about the passion, you just nailed it you are over the top,” he reportedly said.

The other two contestants also impressed with their performances, making it clear it’s going to be one tough decision.

Jessica Sanchez, who Tyler touted as a possible Idol winner, opted for Mariah Carey’s “My All,” the Jackson 5 hit “I’ll Be There” and Aerosmith’s “Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” while Joshua Ledet opted for Etta James’ “I’d Rather Go Blind,” John Lennon’s “Imagine”  and Mary J. Blige’s “No More Drama.”
