Pixar’s Monsters University is set to hit theaters in 2013 but they’re already amping up excitement. Pixar has released four new trailer for the upcoming prequel to 2001 hit movie, Monsters, Inc.
The trailers went viral this week and showed the monsters Sully and Mike doing a lot less scaring and a lot more partying and making friends. That’s because they’re in college, yes monster college, called University of Fear.
“Since the very first bedtime all around the world, children have known that their are monsters hiding in their closets, but what they don’t know is those monsters weren’t always so scary,” the narrator said in all four of the trailers, as a shot of Sully jumping out of the closet to find his monster friend Mike under the covers and mumbling a line like “I don’t want to go to class.” The narrator continued, “They had to go to college first.”
The four trailers for Monster’s University, which will be released June 20, 2013, are the first glimpse for fans into a movie that will detail how the two lovable monsters best known for their role in the 2001 flick, Mike and Sully met and became best friends.
Interestingly enough, the new movie marks the first time Pixar has made a prequel to their films, according to the NY Daily News.
The original movie became a hit shortly after its 2001 debut. It was the fourth feature-length film produced by Pixar and was directed by Pete Docter. The beloved characters Sully and Mike were voiced by John Gooman and Billy Crystal. The story followed the two power plant workers who found a girl who got into their monster world, and made it their mission to get the little girl nicknamed “Boo” home safely.
The original movie will be re-released Jan. 18, 2013, a few months before the prequel hits theaters.
“Ever wonder how Mike & Sulley become best friends? Catch a peek of Monsters University!,” reads the YouTube trailer caption. Check out the trailers.
