A man in his twenties died after his car collided with another on the Long Island Expressway in Jericho early Sunday.
At around 4:15 a.m. a Honda was reportedly being driven east in the westbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway east of Exit 41. Cops say the car collided with a Mercedes Benz traveling west in the center lane and continued on, striking the concrete median before coming to a rest in the HOV lane. At the same time, the Mercedes Benz spun around and came to a rest in the exit ramp area west of the collision.
The 23-year-old man driving the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene at around 4:30 a.m. His name is being withheld pending family notification. A 24-year-old woman passenger in the Honda was transported to a local hospital where she is listed in critical condition. The 49-year-old man who was driving the Mercedes Benz at the time of the crash was also transported to a local hospital where he was treated for non life threatening injuries.
Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is ongoing.
