Editorial: Building For The Future

This past summer may have been a time for vacations and a more relaxed pace of life, but for the Garden City School District, it was a time to continue improvements financed by the community-approved 2009 School Investment Bond. Thursday, September 20 was not only the first board of education meeting for the 2012-13 school year, but a chance for taxpayers to see the improvements made at Homestead. Among the changes revealed during this pre-meeting tour were window and door replacements that will significantly cut down on heating costs, a new library that is the centerpiece of a newly added wing and a shared art and music space. It’s this kind of willingness to upgrade buildings and facilities that continues to make the village a destination for potential residents seeking a top-notch education for their children.
