Meet Gunner and Lady, certified therapy dogs who will be in the library as reading partners. Children often feel more comfortable reading to dogs. For children grades one and up (child must be able to read). From 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. at OBEN Public Library. Registration for OB-EN residents is ongoing, non-residents may register on Oct. 25. Bayville Halloween Costume Event
The Village of Bayville is holding their annual Halloween Ragamuffin Costume Contest from 6 to 8 p.m. in the St. Gertrude’s Parish Center. The costumed event is for all infants to fifth graders. There is a special judging event for moms and dads. There will be refreshments and prizes for all. The adult competition is for all the moms and dads who accompany their children. The event is free. Crafting Halloween Cards
Join the ghouls at the Oyster Bay Historical Society from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. for some spooky fun, while making vintage Halloween treat cards. Each card will come with written directions and templates, so you can make more. Candy included for all of the cards. The class fee is $30, including supplies. Trick or Tweet
The Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center invites you to experience Trick or Tweet!, a family Halloween event, during one of two sessions. Session 1 from 10:30 a.m. to noon, mixed ages with their parents. Session 2 from 1 to 2:30 p.m., mixed ages with their parents. Halloween Event at the American Airpower Museum
A safe Halloween for children fascinated with historic aircraft and armor is being offered by the American Airpower Museum at Republic Airport, 1230 New Highway, Farmingdale from 3 to 7 p.m. Contests and free admission are in store for children under 12 who arrive in costume. Admission to the museum is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and veterans, $5 for children (free to children in costume under 12).

Ghastly Grounds
The Oyster Bay Historical Society presents Ghastly Grounds from 1 to 5 p.m. All little vampires, witches, ghosts and zombies are invited to drop by the Earle Wightman House at 20 Sumitt Street, Oyster Bay, for face painting, skeleton scavenger hunt, and a wild pumpkin toss. Lecture at Coe Hall
Henry Joyce’s illustrated lecture will trace the history of this extraordinary winter retreat built in 1916 on Biscayne Bay. •Oct. 27 and 28: The Haunted Hatchery from 5 to 7 p.m. Visitors take part in the haunted events, eye spooky black catfish, pumpkin seed sunfish, crafts, etc. with refreshments for all. Kids in costumes receive an extra treat. In addition, visitors can witness the centuries old process of trout reproduction at the Hatchery at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

•Oct. 27: The Culper Spy Ring Masquerade Dance from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. Come in disguise. Music by the Mortimer-Lyons Band, Halloween-themed treats by Sweet Tomato. Walk and dance through Long Island’s second-most haunted house. Cost is $125/$100 for members. Adults only.
•Oct. 28: Halloween Hullabaloo from 4 to 6 p.m. Mask-making and pumpkin decorating will take place under an outdoor tent on the lawn of Raynham Hall. Storyteller Janet Demarest will be on hand to tell the spookiest of ghost stories. Cider and gingersnaps provided. $10 per child or $5 for kids in costume.
•Oct. 30: Who is REALLY Haunting Raynham Hall? At 6 and 7:30 p.m. (for ages 10 and up). Metaphysical and Paranormal Specialists Sean Schildgen and Steve Linthwaite will conduct a “how to ghost hunt” presentation. Also on hand will be Elizabeth Milano and her team from Entities Inc., a scientific paranormal research team. The team will place cameras and electronic voice phenomena equipment in several rooms of the museum to either prove or debunk the ghost rumors.
Fall Nature Walks

•Oct. 27: Walk/Run for Conservation and Wildlife Fundraiser at Planting Fields, 9:30 a.m. HOBAS’ First Ever Walk/Run for Wildlife. This fundraiser is for everyone and anyone willing to walk, run or do a combination of both in order to raise money for conservation efforts such as habitat restoration, wildlife research projects, and other conservation initiatives. Registration is $25 per person for adults (raise a minimum of $50 and fee will be waived and you will receive a t-shirt), $15 for kids under the age of 18. Children under the age of 5 are free. Raise at least $100 and be entered to win a gift basket filled with $250 worth of gift certificates from local merchants. U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Needs Oyster Bay Recruits
The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla in the Oyster Bay area is recruiting new members. They are needed to assist the Coast Guard in performing Homeland Security missions and to implement the Coast Guard’s many recreational boating safety programs. No experience or boat is required. Muttontown Unitarian Universalist Fellowship
The Fellowship provides an atmosphere of warmth and camaraderie, with talks presented by intelligent enlightening and non-dogmatic speakers who come from the entire spectrum of the arts, history and sciences. This is followed by coffee and an informal discussion circle, held in the turn-of-the-18th century farmhouse in a bucolic setting. Weekly Events
•Alcoholics Anonymous closed step meeting Sundays at 8 p.m. and open meeting at the same time. On Wednesdays at 8 p.m. there is a beginner’s meeting and a closed discussion meeting.
