Board accepts grant funding for substance abuse program
It’s always good to be recognized for hard work and dedication, and the Island Trees (IT) Board of Education certainly qualifies for that distinction. At the board’s public meeting Wednesday, Oct. 24, the IT administrators, along with the PTA took a moment to thank the board for their service to the community.
“You voluntarily take on a demanding role, a role that entails complex challenges and a great deal of responsibility. You strive to serve your community as well as the students of the district,” said Penny Fisher on behalf of the administrators.
“We’d like to take this opportunity to show our gratitude on behalf of our children, the countless hours, difficult decisions, the dedication you put forth and the effort is truly recognized by us,” said Mrs. Klausner for the members of the PTA.
From there, the board approved a number of items, including: partial year transportation bid awards with WE Transport and Acme Bus Inc.; accepting grant funding under the Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse; services in the amount of $31,193. The board also approved the affiliation agreement with Touro College for occupational therapy fieldwork; accepting the appointment of Janney Montgomery Scott LLC to serve as underwriter for bond refunding; the revision of the student harassment and bullying prevention policy, along with the revised student health services, public conduct and drug and alcohol abuse policies.
The next general board of education meeting will be Wednesday, Nov. 14, 7:30 p.m. at the Karopczyc building.
