A Bethpage burglary and assault, an East Meadow car theft and a Massapequa crash last week led to the arrest of a Levittown man, said Nassau County police.
According to detectives, Albert C. Garfield, 47, of 12 Hunter Lane, drove to a Hahn Avenue home armed with a wooden table leg, and crashed through a fence in the driveway. He proceeded to kick in the door of the home, entering and beat the victim, a 50-year-old man, with the table leg, causing head injuries.
After fleeing the scene, police say that Garfield stole a 2007 Kia from a 50-year-old woman who was waiting to have her car serviced at Auto World on Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow. Roaring away eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike, the car was involved in a crash on Hicksville Road and the ramp for the Southern State Parkway in North Massapequa.
When officers arrived at the scene, they determined Garfield had been driving under the influence of drugs. He was arrested and charged with Burglary 1st degree, Assault 2nd degree, Grand Larceny 3rd degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree and Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs.
