A parolee was arrested in Bellport for gun possession after a gunshot detection system notified authorities of gunfire in the area early Saturday morning, Suffolk County police said.
Police located Kevin Crenshaw, a 33-year-old Bellport man currently on parole, and arrested him for allegedly carrying a 9mm semiautomatic handgun, police said. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon.
Police said two Fifth Precinct officers were dispatched to Hoffman Avenue around 4:42 a.m. following a ShotSpotter notification that indicated a weapon had been fired.
The two officers spotted Crenshaw and another person walking toward his house, police said.
He will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday.
