Local Pets Participate In First Annual Barkfest

The county’s first annual Nassau Barkfest which was held today at the dog park in Eisenhower Park, near Field 7, was a tremendous success with over 500 pets participating in the parade and pet contest and 700 dogs visiting the dog park. The free event was sponsored by Pet Supplies Plus Long Island, Long Island’s K98.3, Anton Community Newspapers/Long Island Weekly and Naudus Communications/South Shore Tribune.

In addition to the costume contest and parade many rescue groups and animal friendly organizations were on site to celebrate.

“It was great to see so many pet owners enjoying our park today and participating in our first annual Nassau Barkfest parade and costume contest,” said County Executive Mangano. “I thank our sponsors for their generosity; for many of us our pets are members of our family and this was a great way to enjoy a nice afternoon together at one of our newest dog parks.”
