Dave Gugerty
Dave Gugerty is running as a Democrat for the Nassau County Legislature in the 18th legislative district.
He is currently the Chief of Staff to the Democratic Caucus at the county legislature. He is running because he believes that he can help put the county on a path to sound financial footing. Gugerty is an attorney who began his career in public service, before starting his own private law firm. In 2005, he re-entered public service as Chief Legal Counsel in the county legislature. He also has served as a Civil Service Commissioner and as Nassau County Public Administrator. He served as an elected trustee of the Village of Bayville from 1994-2002.
Gugerty has been actively involved in many local volunteer organizations including CYO Basketball, Oak Neck Lacrosse, the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, Friendly Sons of St. Patrick and the Red Cross of Nassau County Swim Across. He is a longtime resident of Bayville who currently resides there with his wife Helene and their two daughters.
Gugerty lists stopping the threatened closing of the Glen Cove Hospital, fixing the artery between Bayville and Oyster Bay West Shore Roads, stopping Nassau County’s “brain drain” among college graduates, expanding the county’s tax base with cool downtowns and tackling the deficit problem as major issues facing voters.
Voting takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 5 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Donald MacKenzie
Donald MacKenzie is running as a Republican for the Nassau County Legislature in the 18th legislative district.
MacKenzie was recently nominated by not only the Republican Party, but also by the Conservative and Independence parties as their candidate for this race. He was the alternate re-districting candidate for the Nassau County Legislature in 2011.
MacKenzie lists lower taxes, “smaller and more efficient government,” holding the line on spending and borrowing and promoting private sector growth as major issues facing voters in the 18th district.
MacKenzie is a lifelong resident of Oyster Bay. He currently lives there with his wife, Doreen and their two children. MacKenzie claims that as a father, homeowner, taxpayer and lifelong resident of the district, he is well prepared for the job.
During the past several weeks, MacKenzie has been on the campaign trail, visiting many venues and events throughout the 18th LD, including meeting with voters at the Oyster Bay Manor, the Bayville IGA, the Oyster Bay Chamber of Commerce, Oyster Fest 2013, the 28th annual International Coastal Cleanup, the Town of Oyster Bay Fall & Halloween Festival and the Bayville Fire Department Open House.
Voting takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 5, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
