A 21-year-old Huntington Station man is facing driving while intoxicated charges for an alleged hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a pedestrian early Saturday morning, Suffolk County police said.
The driver, Christian Pivaral, allegedly struck 48-year-old Brooklyn resident Alexander Thomas, who was walking across New York Avenue just before 4 a.m., police said. Pivaral allegedly fled the scene, police said, and was apprehended on New York Avenue shortly after the crash.
Thomas was admitted to Huntington Hospital with serious injuries, police said.
Pivaral was also charged with leaving the scene of an incident without reporting involving seriously physical injury. An arraignment is scheduled for Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip.
Police said the investigation is continuing. Detectives ask anyone with information to contact the vehicular crime unit at 631-852-6555 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
