Hugs Across America held its annual cocktail party at the Manhasset Bay Yacht Club to raise funds for and awareness of the charity’s mission to comfort children with teddy bears during times of crisis.
Guests were entertained with drinks, slideshows of the organization’s efforts, and a wonderful performance by Broadway actress Laura Dreyfuss of selections from Once the Musical and What’s it All About? Bacharach Reimagined.
The evening was capped off with a touching speech by honoree Stella Spanakos, founding member of the ELIJA School for Autism. Stella has served as the President of the Manhasset Parents Association for Special Education, and discussed the importance of helping children in need, a sentiment shared with the Hugs organization. The excitement and energy from her speech resonated through the halls of the yacht club.
The successful evening concluded with guests carrying teddy bears in their arms, smiles on their faces, and intentions to better the community in their hearts. — Jimmy Liu
