Schreiber High School parents, local businesses, students and friends weathered the aftermath of yet another winter storm to attend a sold out fundraising event for Schreiber High School seniors.
An “Evening with Psychic Medium Jane McQuade” was sponsored by Gambol 2014, the committee of parents that arranges the prom for seniors.
Attendees said they enjoyed the intimate space at Finn MacCool’s, the three course dinner and the spirits served by the wait staff. After the dinner, spirits of a different kind were present as the jolliness turned to a more serious tone.
McQuade walked through the crowd with microphone in hand performing her readings for many of the participants. McQuade’s messages and information she received from the “other side” offered comfort, peace and in some cases closure for those who were read, they said. There were often times humor in the messages and all were very grateful to McQuade.
Schreiber seniors Kim Byrne, Ali Verdi, Elizabeth Waskover and Carrie Rybecky rolled up their sleeves and helped in registering the guests as well as selling raffle tickets.
Holly Byrne and Nancy Verdi chaired the event and said they felt a great sense of satisfaction seeing the hard work of so many come to fruition. “It was a very successful and fun evening and we couldn’t have done it without the help of all the parents and local businesses” said Byrne.
Port Washington resident and actor/artist Burt Young and friend Lisa Scuteri were among those in attendance.
Geraldine and Connie O’Reilly, owners of Finn MacCool’s, donated use of their restaurant for the occasion. The following people and merchants donated to the raffle and silent auction: Burt Young, Brian Prestia, LIFT, Shine, Designs by Tracey, Sand’s Point Jeweler, Mitch & Toni’s Restaurant, Massage Envy, Grappelo’s Restaurant and Razzle Dazzle Car Wash. Also donating were Power Ten, DiMaggio’s Restaurant, Automatic Mail, Ogi Nail Salon, The Remler Family, Bermuda Limousine, Smile Design, Wright Music Store, Delux Transportation, Commisso, Hot Ryde, Schreiber graduate Juliette Hayt, Kris Murphy and students: Julia deSciora, Ali Verdi, Chloe Margulis, Martha Horowitz, Rebecca Arifakas and Anna Meyding, who donated photography works.
The Gambol is in its 62nd year and is a gift from parents and the community to show pride in the senior class. One hundred percent of funds go to cover the production of the Gambol.
