This winter seemed to have been endless days of snow, slush, and ice, so we welcome the variety that spring has to offer. The Floral Park Public Library has a lot of variety to offer as well to its patrons.
You may know about the library’s Museum Pass program which provides free admission to a number of cultural institutions on Long Island and in New York City. We recently added a pass for the Museum of the City of New York (MCNY), thanks to the dedicated work on the Friends of the Library. Just up Fifth Avenue from the Guggenheim Museum and the Jewish Museum of New York, MCNY features fascinating exhibits that cover a wide spectrum of topics, from art to social issues, as they relate to New York City and environs.
Current and future featured exhibitions include “City as Canvas: Graffiti Art from the Martin Wong Collection” (on display now through August 24), “Palaces for People: Guastavino and the Art of Structural Tile” (begins March 26 and runs through Sept.7), “Rising Water: Photographs of Sandy” (through April 6), and “Saving Place: 50 Years of NYC Landmarks.” This modest-sized gem of a museum also offers family programs.
