Freeport Robber Shoots at Victim, Misses

A masked would-be robber fired a handgun at a woman who grabbed the weapon, but the shooter missed before running away empty handed in Freeport, Nassau County police said.

The gunman approached the 33-year-old victim on Sunrise Highway, stole her cell phone and demanded that she walk back to her house on Randall Avenue so that she could give him at least $5,000 at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

When they arrived at the home, that’s when police said the victim grabbed the gun, but the gunman pulled it away and fired two shots at her before he ran away southbound on North Brookside Avenue.

The victim was not injured.

The suspect is described as a black man, 21 years old, 6-feet tall with a medium build, medium complexion, wearing a black mask, black gloves, dark gray hooded sweatshirt, black sweat pants and black sneakers.
