In celebration of National Volunteer Week, Manhasset resident Rosemary Mascali, chair of Long Island Volunteer Enterprise (LIVE) 2014, kicked off the group’s 22nd year on April 11 with a landscaping project benefiting the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County’s (UCPN) 48-bed Intermediate Care Facility in Bayville.
Paul Lowry, director of the Bayville residence, described the project as a “spring clean-up,” stating, “the help of the LIVE volunteers will allow our organization to fully devote our resources to the 1,800 individuals with cerebral palsy and other developmental disabilities that we serve.”
The 2014 kick-off project is one of 80 projects already submitted to LIVE by nonprofit agencies for adoption this year. Since 1993, corporate volunteers matched to one-day projects through LIVE have completed over 250,000 community service hours for nonprofit agencies benefiting Long Islanders in need.
“The LIVE planning committee was excited to have the opportunity to work with the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County to kick off our 2014 season,” said Mascali, 2014 LIVE planning committee chair. “By example, we hope to encourage corporate volunteer teams across Long Island to get out and adopt a project this year.”
