Jane Veroxie-Nyquist of Locust Valley, New York, formerly of Glen Cove, passed away on Saturday, April 5. She was the beloved wife of the late Peter, who passed away on March 9, 2013. Loving Aunt of Jaclyn, Steven, Mary Frances and the late Kathryn. Niece of Doris and John Burns and Joan Mynarkiewicz. Dear sister of the late William and Joseph. Cherished daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine.
Jane was a devoted and integral part of Anton Community Newspapers in Mineola from 1976 to 1998. She served as our technical support advisor, providing her expertise in writing computer programs to ensure smooth operation, and was promoted to Second Vice President in 1982, a position she held until her departure from the company in 1998. In addition, several of her family members were employed at Anton at various times. Jane always considered her co-workers as “family”. Even after leaving her employment with Anton, Jane kept in touch with many of the employees, often getting together for dinner or meeting in the city to enjoy a Broadway play. Her husband, Peter, was also an employee of Anton for many years and at the time of his death held the position of General Manager.
Jane’s hobbies and interests were many and varied. They encompassed her love of gardening, needlepoint, crocheting, jigsaw puzzles, cooking, traveling and attending concerts and shows at Tilles Center. She enjoyed touring the local arboretums and designer showcases and was fond of haunting the local antique shops and those she came upon during trips around the country with her husband. She and her parents spent many vacations in Las Vegas, and Jane and Peter loved traveling throughout New England, enjoying several excursions to Bar Harbor, Maine. They were especially fond of Vermont, which they visited often and where they were married. Another of Jane’s passions was her love of classical music, being a season ticket holder to the Long Island Philharmonic for close to 30 years.
She attended school in Glen Cove and was a graduate of SUNY Oneonta. Those who knew Jane would describe her as a unique individual who lived life on her own terms. She was a caring, yet quiet individual with a tremendous sense of loyalty to friends and family. She had a special way of holding a cigarette and loved driving her “baby” Lincoln.
Jane and her first husband, James Sterling Postley, who died in 1990, lived at Mildew Manor in Locust Valley. After Jane and Peter were married in 1999, they resided at the Manor until their respective deaths.
