Nassau County Police Department Annual Open House will be held from Wednesday, May 14 through Friday, May 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 1490 Franklin Ave. at 14th St. in Mineola. Exhibits and demonstrations include: the police museum, bomb squad, mounted unit, highway patrol, police academy, canine unit, aviation bureau, detention and more. No appointment necessary. North End Civic Association will meet on May 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Reliance Fire House at 2 Holland Ave.
JLCS PTA meeting on Thursday, May 15 at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium. Meet other parents and find out what’s going on at school. Officer Groshans and School Superintendent Opiekun will be the guest speakers. Sign up for chair and co-chair positions for the many committees that help organize programs that support the school and students. Babysitting will be available.
The Town of Hempstead’s Rock Hall will host their children’s gardening club on Thursdays from May 15 through Aug. 21 from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m.
Gardening: A Lesson in Life – Learn how to cultivate, seed, plant, and tend a vegetable and herb garden. Membership to the Garden Club is $80 for children ages 5 through 10. Garden club fee includes instruction, plants, and seeds. Pre-payment required. The Town of Hempstead Stop Throwing Out Pollutants (STOP) collection day for household waste will be held on Saturday, May 17 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Newbridge Road Park in South Bellmore. For information call 516-378-2200.
South Floral Park will host the annual Armed Forces Day Ceremony on Saturday, May 17 at 11 a.m. at 383 Roquette Ave. All active military, veterans and residents are welcome to attend.

Bob McMillan will be presenting his video Presidents, Foreign Policy and Fun Vignettes on May 19 at 1 p.m. at the Floral Park Recreation Center. This event is hosted by Floral Park AARP Chapter 5224. The Floral Park Village board of trustees will meet on May 20 at 8 p.m. in the village hall court room.
The Floral Park-Bellerose School District election and budget vote will be held on Tuesday, May 20 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. for registered voters at their respective schools, John Lewis Childs and Floral Park-Bellerose. The ballots contain four items: Floral Park-Bellerose UFSD budget; one trustee for Floral Park-Bellerose UFSD; Sewanhaka Central High School District budget; Sewanhaka Central High School District bond proposition. This year’s candidates for the FPBSD election are Jennell Horan and Elizabeth Rossi.

Village offices will be closed today in observance of Memorial Day.
Floral Park American Legion Memorial Day parade and ceremony begins at 10 a.m. in front of the post. Ceremony begins at 11 a.m. at Memorial Park.

Sewanhaka Central High School District Board will meet on Tuesday, May 27 at 8 p.m. at Sewanhaka High School.
