Nearly 3,000 voters in the Levittown School District cast their ballots on May 20, to pass a $198.7 million spending plan for the 2014-2015 school year, by a margin of 68 percent.
According to unofficial tallies, 1,965 residents voted “yes” while 906 voted against the 2014-2015 budget.
“This budget was a result of the Board of Education’s hard work, a great working relationship between the central administration and the board, and input from the community,” said Levittown Superintendent Dr. James J. Grossane. “We thank the entire community for its continued support.”
This year, the proposed spending plan and two local propositions—the library budget and capital reserve fund—passed in each of the four voting districts in Levittown.
As a result tax bills will increase by 4.01 percent for residents who did not grieve their taxes this year.
Spending in the adopted budget represents a 1.62 percent increase—or $3,168,560—over the 2013-2014 budget.
The school district’s spending plan for 2014-2015 also comes with a levy increase of 1.62 percent. This equates to an estimated tax rate increase of $1,136.27 per $100 of assessed property value, if the adjusted base proportions remain at their current level.
Voters also approved the two propositions, to adopt a $7.2 million library budget and enable the district to dip into its reserves for playground improvements at Abbey Lane, new cooling stations, weight and locker rooms at Division Avenue High School, wrestling and locker rooms at Salk Middle School, and masonry improvements.
