The Locust Valley Farmer’s Market started in early June for locals and visitors to enjoy fresh produce from farms on Long Island.
Elaine Domaleski, from Gajeski Products in Riverhead, has been selling her nephew’s products at this market since it opened 12 years ago. They enjoy coming to this market because of the people and atmosphere.
“It’s a very quiet, not very big market,” Domaleski said.
Gajeski Products is currently selling products in season such as carrots, strawberries and lettuce. Later in the summer, Domaleski says they will start selling blueberries and corn.
New to the market this year is Chez Hedwige, a gluten-free baked goods shop started by Edwige Oriol of Valley Stream. Oriol started the business after she discovered that she needed to have gluten-free products.
“You can have a cupcake and enjoy it, too,” Oriol said.
All of Oriol’s products are made with organic and natural ingredients such as coconut flour and flax seed. There are no additives, preservatives or ingredients in her products.
Maureen Barrett, Locust Valley resident, has been coming to the farmer’s market for the past 10 years.
“Everything is always perfect and delicious,” Barrett said. “[The people] are very fair, easy to talk to and accommodating.”
As far as favorite products go, Barrett said there’s not much at the farmer’s market that she doesn’t like.
“The strawberries and asparagus are out of this world,” Barrett said.
The farmer’s market will be in the Grenville Baker Boys and Girls Club parking lot from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. until Nov. 22.
