A hit-and-run driver killed an 85-year-old man in his hometown of Melville Friday evening, Suffolk County police said.

Robert Hosking was struck by a southbound vehicle on Route 110 before the driver fled the scene at 8:50 p.m., police said.

The vehicle was described as green with damage to the passenger side front end, side view mirror and windshield.

The victim was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where he died Saturday morning.

Vehicular Crime Unit detectives ask anyone who may have witnessed or has information about the crash to call them at 631-852-6555 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
