A hit-and-run driver seriously injured a 62-year-old man who was crossing a street in New Hyde Park on Monday night, Nassau County police said.

The victim had just stepped off of a bus before walking across Hillside Avenue when he was hit by an eastbound vehicle near the corner of Lakeville Road at 9:54 p.m., police said.

The driver fled the scene and the victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of multiple traumatic injuries, police said.

Investigators are looking for the suspect and the vehicle, which was determined to be a white 1997-1999 Toyota Camry.
