Brian Friedrichs, 22, of Levittown was taken into police custody following a fatal car accident on July 22 along the Northern State Parkway.
According to New York State Police, Friedrichs was behind the wheel of a gray Mazda headed westbound near Post Avenue at approximately 4 a.m., when he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to turn over several times, ejecting both Friedrichs and his passenger in the process.
The passenger, Christopher Gallina, 23, also of Levittown, was transported to Winthrop Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later, police said. Police also indicated that Gallina may have been struck by another vehicle following the crash.
Though police continue to investigate the accident, as of press time, Friedrichs has been charged with second degree manslaughter and driving while intoxicated.
According to Mother’s Against Drunk Drivers, if convicted on both charges, Friedrichs could face up to 7 years jail time and/or as much as a $5,000 fine.
