This September, the staff and students at Our Lady of Victory (OLV) School in Floral Park will have a fresh new perspective on things. More than 300 windows on the school’s two buildings were replaced, after enduring more than 20 years of weather and wear.
“It was time; we had been researching it for a long time.” said OLV Principal Peg Augello. “They had to be done; they were just too old.”
The OLV Parish Finance Committee approved the capital project to have all of the windows replaced. Kelly Windows in Farmingdale began the process of changing all of the windows as soon as school ended in June and completed the installation by mid-July.
OLV Parish Business Manager Jane Parrinelli told the Floral Park Dispatch that the installation is complete, but adjustments and changes are in progress, including some work to the gymnasium windows, but everything is scheduled to be finished before school starts this fall. The teachers will be back for workshops on Aug. 28; the students will start school on Sept. 3.
“We had to complete the windows for efficiency, because of leaks,” said Parrinelli. She said some of the windows were in such bad condition that they needed to be covered with plastic to prevent water and wind from coming through. “The new windows will enable us to save substantially in fuel costs.”
