The Plainview-Old Bethpage Chamber of Commerce board recently announced that one of its members, Andrew M. Lamkin, has been named Plainview-Old Bethpage Chamber of Commerce Small Business Person of the Year for 2014.
Principal of the Law Office of Andrew M. Lamkin, P.C., located on Old Country Road in Plainview, Lamkkin has been practicing law since 2008. Receiving a bachelor of arts degree in political science and history in 1996 from Syracuse University and a juris doctor from Widener School of Law in 2006, Lamkin is currently an active member of the Plainview Old Bethpage Chamber of Commerce where he serves as chairman of the membership committee and is a member of the executive board. He was also recently elected as vice president of the Chamber of Commerce.
“This is a great honor,” said Lamkin. “It means a lot coming from the people I work with and live with in Plainvew. This is a great chamber and we do a lot of great work in the community. It means a lot to be honored and recognized by my peers.”
It was Lamkin’s interaction with his clients that won him the honor, and he prides himself on his ability to communicate with customers. It is of the utmost importance in his line of work, he believes.
“Communication with clients is really important to me and as part of the chamber we do plenty of networking with customers and with each other,” he said. “Within the community, communication is incredibly important. Once you do something wrong or you treat a client in a certain way, word gets around town. If that happens your business won’t survive very long.”
Lamkin moved to Plainview about six years ago from Boston, and in that time he and his wife have made some great friends and built a meaningful life within the community.
“The people in Plainview are a great bunch,” he said. “They care about family and it is full of great civic organizations. Not just the chamber, but the Mid Island Y and senior citizen club, school board; they all work together to make this a great place to work and play.”
Elan Wurtzel, president of the Plainview chamber, said Lamkin’s tireless involvement with his local community powered the chamber’s decision to name him small business person of the year.
“Andrew was selected as the chamber small business person of the year as a result of his involvement in community activities including the Plainview-Old Bethpage Chamber of Commerce and various groups he’s become associated with in the course of his practice of law in the fields of elder care and estate planning,” said Wurtzel. “He started his own law practice several years ago and through dedication, community involvement and networking he has built a successful law practice. He epitomizes the qualities of a Small Business Person, demonstrating persistence, dedication, and entrepreneurial spirit.”
A member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, Lamkin also belongs to the Senior Umbrella Network of Nassau County, and he also serves on the advisory board from the Eden II and Genesis programs for adults and children living with autism in New York.
Lamkin and his firm exclusively practice in the areas of residential real estate transactions, supplemental needs, estate planning, elder law, estate administration and planning. Lamkin will be honored later this year at a legislative breakfast given by the Nassau County Council of Chambers on Oct. 17.
