The library board meeting will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 13 at the Floral Park Public Library at 7:30 p.m.

Assemblyman Ed Ra is hosting a free barbeque dinner to honor local veterans. The dinner will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14 at VFW Post 2718 in Franklin Square. Representatives from Nassau County Clerk Maureen O’Connell’s Veterans ID Program will be at the event. Veterans must bring their discharge papers or their DD214 to the barbeque. Upon presenting these papers, they will receive an ID card, a discount card and will be able to keep a copy of their discharge papers/DD214 form on file in the county clerk’s office. The copies filed with the clerk’s office will be considered legitimate documentation in the event that the original is lost. Veterans and one guest are invited to attend the event. Reservations are necessary and can be made by calling 516-535-4095.

Big Shot will perform on Friday, Aug. 15 at Mulcahy’s in Wantagh from 6 to 9 p.m. to benefit the Arrows Hockey PeeWee “AA” Team. Concert benefit is for adults. Advance tickets are $40. Andy Cooney, the nation’s most beloved Irish American singer and world-touring band return to Floral Park on Friday, Aug. 22 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Floral Park Summer of Stars 2014 series at Memorial Park at Tulip and Plainfield avenues. Bring your own chair or blanket. All concerts are held rain or shine.
