The rain held out this past weekend for the Maria SS. Dell’Assunta Society’s Feast of the Assumption. Thousands came from all over Long Island to enjoy the annual festival which took place Aug. 13-17 at the parking lot of St. Brigid’s School.
The feast included home-cooked Italian food, games and rides. Attendees also enjoyed live musical entertainment by numerous groups including Primavera Trio and Francesco Castiglione and J and J Music. There was also a fireworks show on Saturday night and an auction. New to the feast this year was a baking contest. First place went to Judy Rau for her chocolate raspberry bars, second went to Danielle Buffolino for her tier cake with roses and third went to Melinda Buffolino for her cream puffs.
Staying true to the feast’s tradition, there was also a mass on Friday in honor of Mary, followed by a procession of society members carrying the statue from the church to the fair grounds.
