Island Park residents have been struggling to fix up their homes and businesses since Superstorm Sandy hit Long Island back in 2012. Even today, village meetings have to be held in a trailer across the street from the local ale house, instead of at village hall because of the damage.
In communities like Breezy Point, Staten Island, New Jersey, the Rockaways, people are still struggling to set up their home and offices. So, when local travel agent Debra Michaels heard that the music duo Lucas Klose were looking for a location to shoot the music video for their new song, “Mary Magdalene,” she called all of her neighbors including the local Fire Department.
“Yeah, we want to get the message out that we’re having a rough time,” neighbors said.
Recalling disaster songs like Peter Adamson’s “The Titanic” or Gordon Lightfoot’s “Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald,” the song “Mary Magdalene” describes living through a natural disaster, like Superstorm Sandy, and coping with the aftermath. The song was co-written by Gary Lucas (Jeff Buckley, Captain Beefheart), singer/songwriter Jann Klose and Dan Beck who has written songs with legendary rockers Dion DiMucci and the Rascals’ Felix Cavaliere.
On Sept. 16, Beck, his musical colleagues and production crews, including students from Five Towns’ College, will be at the Local Ale filming Lucas Klose’s song “Mary Magdalene” throughout Island Park, and hope to wind the night up with the locals at the Local Ale at 6:30 pm.
