Floral Park Student-Musicians Honored

Four student-musicians at Floral Park Memorial High School have been selected to participate in state and national ensembles based on their musical talents.

The National Association for Music Education (NAfME) has selected Matthew Weigl to perform in the All-National Orchestra at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville, TN. Weigl plays bass trombone and is the first student in the Sewanhaka Central High School District invited to play with an All-National ensemble in 11 years.

Meanwhile, the New York State School Music Association has selected Jainam Doshi (timpani) and Therese Azzara (soprano I) to participate in All-State ensembles at the annual NYSSMA Winter Conference to be held at the Eastman Theatre in Rochester from Dec. 4-7.

In addition, student-musician Ryan Slavin was selected as an alternate for the ensemble. Thousands of students auditioned for this honor during solo and ensemble festivals throughout the state.

Weigl, Doshi and Slavin have also been nominated for the All-Eastern Music Festival, which will be held in Providence, RI in April 2015.
