Assemblyman David McDonough (R)
David McDonough of Merrick was first elected to the state assembly in a special election in Feb. 2002 and was re-elected to his seventh term in Nov. 2012. McDonough is the Chairman of an Assembly Task Force on Public Safety and as such is working with various agencies including the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, FBI, Secret Service, police and law enforcement and the courts, volunteer firefighters and emergency services, veterans and military personnel, sex offender watch and workforce issues in the correctional services. He is an Associate Board Member of the New York State chapter of InfraGard, an FBI Public-Private Partnership.
Candidate Gaspare Tumminello (D)
Gaspare Tumminello has a background of being a young entrepreneur, small business owner and governmental director. Gaspare resides in North Merrick with his wife, Rosangela, who is a teacher. In 2008, he introduced and managed a Nassau County surplus bidding process online as the Deputy Commissioner for the Nassau County Department of Purchasing. Through this, Gaspare brought the county a surplus/savings of 23 million dollars which helped balance the budget and save tax payers money. Gaspare, who is now the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Democratic Minority in the Nassau County Legislature, is working on community revitalization projects and managing legislative staff.
