Candidate Doug Lee (R)
Doug Lee is an active community volunteer. He served as the chairperson for the Chinese Cultural Association of Long Island, an organization that celebrates diversity and cultural understanding. His wife Karen teaches dancing classes for seniors at New Hyde Park. They have lived in Manhasset for 25 years. Their son Jonathan recently graduated magna cum laude from NYU. Doug is a computer systems management professional and holds multiple certifications in systems management and auditing. He works in a financial services company where he is responsible for global audits of information technology systems. He previously worked for KPMG where he built and led a computer security consulting practice. His other accomplishments included management and implementation of $100 million projects. Doug earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a MBA from St. John’s University.
Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel (D)
Michelle Schimel is currently serving her fourth term representing the 16th Assembly District. Prior to serving in the Assembly, Michelle was the town clerk of North Hempstead for eight years. Michelle is recognized in her community for her passion on the issues that affect New York, particularly the prevention of gun violence and protecting the environment. Michelle has built a reputation for being one of the most effective and productive members of the New York State Assembly. Michelle was appointed to the leadership position of vice chair of the majority conference. She sits on the assembly standing committees on government operations, local government, environmental conservation, transportation, and veteran affairs.
