Down one game a piece, the evenly matched Farmingdale High School Dalers Varsity Football team claimed home turf, on Oct. 24, for a nail biter against the Generals of MacArthur High School.
At the start, things were not looking so good for the Dalers, as the Generals struck first with a touchdown in the first quarter of the game. And by the second quarter things were really looking bleak, once MacArthur’s Vin Martino scored a 5-yard touchdown, giving the team a 14-0 lead.
With time winding down, the Dalers pushed to get on the board, scoring a touchdown late in the second quarter. But the Generals defense would prove tough, staving off the extra point to bring the team to a 14-6 lead at the half.
The third quarter belonged to the Dalers, who were determined to respond to MacArthur’s two early touchdowns. Late in the quarter, Farmingdale would get their chance with a 1-yard touchdown from Styvenson Hogarth to bring the team to 14-12. However, a failed attempt at a two-point conversion would keep them at a two point deficit going into the fourth quarter.
Fans were on their feat as the Dalers would continue their offensive push. With just 16 seconds left in the final quarter of play, a 38-yard field goal from the Dalers’ Zach Kolodny would soar over the posts to win the game 15-14. The Dalers are now 6-1 in the regular season, tying with East Meadow for second place in the conference, while the MacArthur Generals fall to 5-2.
