Artists Wins Scholarship Contest

Julia Maher, a senior in Regina Nicholas’ Advanced Placement Studio Art class received a $1,000 scholarship grand prize in a recent contest sponsored by Your Time for Creative Empowerment, Inc., a nonprofit corporation that raises funds for students to pursue the arts to improve personal relationships, develop problem-solving skills and increase cultural sensitivity.

Maher’s entry is a very expressive charcoal drawing that she describes as a young vulnerable woman suffering from stress and external pressures as she is slowly losing her sanity.
Maher plans to attend art school after she graduates in June, and the $1,000 award will help pay for her tuition to the college of her choice.
