Local residents, Kevin Morell, Katherine Morell, and Thomas Morell will perform with the Children’s Orchestra Society (COS) at its 46th Annual Winter Concert on Dec. 14 at 4 p.m. at the Madison Theatre in Rockville Center. The Kinder Orchestra, COS’s youngest group, will be performing “Menuetto in C” by Haydn, “Duet #1 K.V. 476” by Mozart and “Duos I & V” by Derckum.
The Sinfonia Orchestra, which includes Kevin Morell, violin will be performing “Minuetto” from Eine Kleine Nachtmusik by Mozart and a Haydn piece; and Thomas Morell, cello.
The Junior Symphonic Ensemble, will be performing the first movement of “Symphony No. 40 in G Minor” by Mozart and “Toreador” from Carmen by Bizet and the Young Symphonic Ensemble, which includes Katherine Morell, viola COS’s oldest most advanced group will be performing Verdi’s “La Forza del Destino”, “Andante” from Concerto No. 4 by Vieuxtemps, with winner of Junior Discovery, Anna Maria Pavlou, violin and Ponchielli’s “Dance of the Hours”.
COS was founded by Dr. H.T. Ma and is a non-profit organization dedicated to “teaching the language of music” to children and teens.
Their mission is to cultivate and nurture children and teach them teamwork and life skills through music learning and performing in orchestral and chamber music settings.
The Children’s Orchestra Society consists of four youth orchestras on varying levels and ages, chamber music ensembles as well as musicianship classes.
