A 52-year-old Lake Ronkonkoma man was killed in a one-car crash in his hometown on Friday, Suffolk County police said.

The victim, John Grega, was driving his 1999 Chevrolet westbound on Oaklake Lane at approximately 5 p.m. when he apparently lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree, police said.

Grega was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Sixth Squad detectives are investigating the crash.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check, police said. Detectives ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652.
