Leisure Club Looks To ’15

Mineolaleisure_012315C Due to a conflict with village events, the use of the community center at Village Hall was only available for one Mineola Leisure Club meeting in November. Furthermore, because of the holiday season, there were only two meetings in December. Nevertheless, those meetings brought some fun time for the seniors.

Thanksgiving table parties were festive as club members enjoyed their turkey sandwiches and potato salad catered by Dominick’s deli for the nominal cost of $3. A special ice cream treat, courtesy of the club, was served later. Diane Templeton, a talented singer, wowed the audience with her rendition of Broadway classics.

Mineolaleisure_012315DAn early December board meeting covered the business agendas for both months. Birthdays and anniversaries from July to December were acknowledged. As usual, 50/50 drawings were held and after closing the business meeting bingo reigned. The following week found club members participating in Christmas table parties. In addition to the goodies that the seniors brought, the Leisure Club officials provided sandwiches for the group.

There was another opportunity for members to get together on Senior Appreciation Day. That day all the seniors in town were invited to enjoy a luncheon, courtesy of the Village of Mineola. A final gathering took place when the club held its Christmas luncheon at the beautiful Westbury Manor on Dec. 16. There the seniors were welcomed to a lovely prelunch buffet, followed by a salad course, pasta a la vodka and a main course of chicken, filet of beef or fish. Once again, the group danced to the music of Joe Ratto. Mayor Scott Strauss and Rich Nicolello graced the club with their presence as the year 2014 was coming to an end.

An overnight trip for $164 on Dec. 9 and 10 to Resorts in Atlantic City was offered to club members. There was a return of $25 for slots play and breakfast. A dinner buffet and tickets to see Allen Edwards in a Casino Christmas Show were also included in this package. An en route home stop at the Tomasello Winery, where lunch was served, was a special perk included in this trip.Mineolaleisure_012315B

2015 looks to be a busy schedule for Leisure Club members. Many are happy to be returning to the community center, where they will be able to renew an active schedule. Best of all, friends will be able to get together and enjoy whatever comes their way.
