Levittown sophomores Douglas Melgar from Division Avenue High School and Carissa Giuliano from MacArthur High School were selected as the 2014-’15 winners of the Hugh O’Brien Youth (HOBY) Leadership award. MacArthur High School sophomore Teresa Neri was selected as an alternate.
Through a rigorous selection process comprised of a nomination, essay and interview, Melgar and Giuliano demonstrated the embodiment of core HOBY values, including volunteerism, integrity, excellence, diversity and community partnership.
HOBY programs allow students selected by their school to participate in unique leadership training, service learning and motivation-building experiences.
