Kindergarten students in Lauren McGovern’s class at The Heights School are working on iPads with Raz-Kids, a reading application with many interactive features. They are in the vanguard of the district’s expansion of tablet computing into the elementary grades.
The introduction of several classroom sets of iPads into all three of the elementary schools this year is being coordinated with intensive professional development for teachers. The district’s success with iPads at the high school over the last few years has shown that providing support for teachers and getting their feedback on a regular basis is essential to the effective use of this technology and to its widespread use across a range of curriculum.
The program will continue to grow steadily as more and more teachers and students discover the benefits of the iPad’s portability and accessibility.
