Floral Park Village residents are invited to join “The Great Backyard Bird Count” at Centennial Gardens on Friday, Feb. 13, from 3 to 4 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 14 (noon to 1 p.m.) and Sunday, Feb. 15 (1 to 2 p.m.). Floral Park Recreation Center’s very own bird enthusiast Don Haug will be on hand to oversee and provide background information to bird viewers throughout the data collection endeavor.
The Great American Bird Count assists scientist and the National Audubon Society in the collection of data in order to study the bird population over a specific period of time.
Floral Park’s Centennial Gardens provides the perfect setting for those who wish to join in this very popular endeavor. In addition residents may also use their very own backyards to observe and count the fine feathered species of the local community.
This is a fun and family-friendly way to discover and help birds in the village of Floral Park. Count results be submitted to Haug at the end of each session or dropped off at the recreation center pool building before 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 16.
