Maurer Foundation 20th Anniversary Pink Bowl

The Maurer Foundation kicked off the start of their 20th year with the annual Pink Bowl event raising over $21,000 for breast health education here on Long Island. The 6th annual bowling fundraiser, was held on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015 at Bowlmor Long Island in Melville. Over 100 guests attended to support the foundation.

The event was sponsored by Sperry Federal Credit Union, based in Garden City Park. A lively “Battle of the Banks” bowling competition ensued with six banks competing for bragging rights and a fabulous prize. The winning team was The Green Machine of TD Bank. The other participants were Signature Bank, Capital One Bank, Santander Bank, and HAB Bank.

“Once again, it was a great afternoon out and a great way to beat the cold weather,” said Executive Director Susan Samaroo. “This year’s Battle of the Banks really added a fun competitive element for our guests and everyone really enjoyed the festivities while keeping in mind the importance of our mission here at The Maurer Foundation.”

The top fundraising team was The Roy Munson team from Signature Bank. Led by Kerry Mach, the team collectively raised $3180. Minnie Nevins and Lenore Carbonne tied for female bowlers with the highest scores and Ralph Gallo of TD Bank earned the title of male bowler with the highest score.

Pizza and drinks were served, a 50/50 raffle and gift basket raffle drew much attention and the pink and white Cookies for a Cause were sold with all proceeds going to the foundation’s free breast health education programs.

The Maurer Foundation is Long Island’s only nonprofit dedicated solely to breast health education. The foundation focuses on saving lives through prevention, early detection and risk reduction of breast cancer. The organization has educated over a quarter million people through its free high school, community and business breast health workshops since its inception in 1995.
