Kindergartners throughout the Massapequa School District worked their fine and gross motor skills by cutting, coloring, gluing, stacking, writing, drawing and exercising—all in celebration of the 100th day of school. The vast array of fun-filled activities reinforced their understanding of the triple-digit number, and of math concepts such as how groups of 10 make 100 and how to count to the number by ones, fives and tens.
Students at Fairfield Elementary School, with the help of parent volunteers, rotated to six different stations in which they made 100-day crowns decorated with 100 dots, completed a chart of 100 numbers, drew pictures incorporating the number 100, and wrote or drew what 100 means to them. They also had fun stacking100 red cups and working their muscles by doing 10 exercises 10 times each. Lockhart students proudly wore 100th-day shirts that they made at home while participating in activities that included connecting 100 cubes together to see how long 100 is and creating a gumball machine with 100 gumballs inside. East Lake youngsters had fun creating 100-day hats, playing math games on number charts and rotating to different activity stations.
At McKenna, students went on a journey through the school by following 100 hearts and discovering “surprise” guests at the end of the trail: Principal Dr. Amanda Lowry and Assistant Principal Diane Sales. They learned how to use a tape measure by measuring a snake that was 100 inches long and ate a snack in the shape of the number while listening to a story.
Birch Lane youngsters were assigned a letter of the alphabet and were asked to collect 100 objects beginning with that letter. They celebrated by sharing their 100th-day collections in class, making hats, singing songs and listening to their teachers read the book Miss Bindergarten Celebrates the 100th Day of Kindergarten.
Celebrations at Unqua included counting 100 beads to make necklaces, coloring 100 day pictures using paint sticks, making 100 day hats using 100 stickers, matching numbers 1-100 on the number chart and picking 10 objects from 10 containers to make a goodie bag.
