Patti Tenaglia – Maggie And Jack Biggane – Christopher Koester
At last Thursday’s board of trustees meeting, I had the pleasure of presenting a proclamation to Patti Tenaglia who established the Miracle Foundation, which was created 14 years ago in honor of her late husband Michael with a strong desire to make a difference in the fight against cancer.
I would also like to mention Maggie and Jack Biggane who, unfortunately, were unable to be at Thursday’s board meeting. I have two proclamations for them for their accomplishments with regard to The Mollie Biggane Melanoma Foundation, which was established in honor of their late daughter Mollie, with the mission to increase awareness for melanoma prevention.
Another outstanding individual that I have prepared a proclamation for is Christopher Koester, a Garden City High School senior, who founded the “New Socks for Tots” program with the goal to create and promote a drive to collect new socks to be donated to the pediatric patients at Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York.
These are only a few of the dedicated, caring residents who have made a difference in many people’s lives. I would like to express my thanks to all who donate their time and talent by making not only Garden City, but the world a better place.
Police Department News
From time to time in this column, I will be including information from Commissioner Kenneth Jackson of our police department. This week he has asked that I include the following.
All motorists are reminded of the dangers of following too closely behind other motorists. Commonly referred to as tailgating, following too closely behind other vehicles often results in rear end collisions. The Garden City Police Department responds to many of these types of accidents each year. Tailgating is also responsible for other types of accidents; following a vehicle too closely can cause a motorist to abruptly change lanes when the vehicle in front suddenly stops. Tailgating is considered an aggressive driving violation. So please make sure that for safety of all you do not tailgate.

Board Of Trustees Meeting
The next board of trustees meeting will be the annual organizational meeting, on April 6. The meeting will be held in the boardroom at village hall. I encourage all residents to attend board of trustees meetings so as to be thoroughly informed of village issues from a firsthand perspective.
