Syosset Library’s Business and Careers Collection, consisting of print material as well as online databases (most of which are accessible remotely), is designed to help local businesses meet their information needs.
“Small businesses employing four or fewer employees make up the majority of businesses in the country,” said library director Karen Liebman. “And their survival and growth depends on obtaining accurate information in a timely manner. We want our local businesses to look to Syosset Library as for information and support.”
The Business and Careers Collection consists of the latest information on such diverse topics as management, accounting, law, human resources, taxes, business plans, computers and social networking, professional certification tests and resume writing. Many of the books in our print collection are also available to download through the library website onto tablets and smartphones.
Syosset Library also offers databases specifically geared towards businesses. These include: WestlawNext, the well-known legal research database containing New York case law, administrative codes, statutes and opinions; ReferenceUSA which allows businesses to identify new residents and to target customers based upon lifestyle interests; Morningstar Investment Research Center, and Hoovers which has company and industry news and information, company profiles, brands, rankings, histories, investment reports, and market share data. In early 2015, the library added Lynda.com, a leading online learning database that helps patrons learn business, software, technology and creative skills.
Upcoming programs on small business marketing using social media, certifications for small businesses, and access to small business administration financing are being planned.
