Local Runners Win Awards In 15K Run

For superb athletes like Daniel Valderrama of Oyster Bay and Foo Yuen Wong of Mill Neck, bad weather conditions are just one more challenge that must be met, and overcome, and they did just that at the 18th annual Lazer, Aptheker, Rosella & Yedid Kings Park 15 Kilometer Run on March 14.

Running through rains that were quite heavy at times, Valderrama crossed the finish line in 1 hour, five minutes, 50 seconds to win the second place trophy in the 40-44 age group, and Wong scored in 1 hour, 27 minutes, 32 seconds to take home second place honors in the 65-69 age group.

The weather obviously had an impact on the times and on the turnout, but 449 dedicated athletes made their way to the finish line at the New Beginnings School in Kings Park.

The event was hosted by the Greater Long Island Running Club, and was a fundraiser for the American Brain Tumor Foundation and the Frank Toto Memorial Foundation, which presents scholarships to deserving Kings Park High School seniors who will be pursuing business degrees in college.

The event’s sponsors were: Lazer, Aptheker, Rosella & Yedid, Attorneys at Law; Kings Park Physical Therapy; Flynn-Aire Heating & Air Conditioning; CRK Contracting; Sullivan & Kehoe LLP, Attorneys at Law; Kings Park Bake Shop; Kings Park Stationery, Kings Park Florist and Runner’s Edge.
