Kathleen DeLucia (nee Winters). Born in Leitrim, Ireland in 1935, Kathleen came to the United States in 1954. She grew up on a dairy farm in Ireland and it is there that her love for all animals was born. Upon coming to America she settled in Oyster Bay where she found work at private homes as a domestic, and later began working at the local A&P in the meat department. She loved to work in her garden tending to flower beds, planting seasonal plants and flowers and making sure the “little critters” birds and squirrels had food and water nearby. A case could be made that any animal that was within 100 miles of walking or flying distance from the Oyster Bay homestead knew that a free meal was always at the ready.
She is predeceased by her former husband Carmen DeLucia (April 14, 2003) and is survived by her daughter, Carmen Marie Miuccio and her husband Philip M. Miuccio. She was affectionately known as “The Old Crow” by her son-in-law Philip. She is also survived by her sister Maura Daly and her husband Martin Daly, who reside in Ireland, and her brother Patrick Winters of Albany. Also her sister-in-law Mary DeCarolis and her husband Frank DeCarolis, and brother-in-law Vincent Bellissimo. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews in both Ireland and Long Island, as well as friends of Saint Dominic’s R.C. Church and the Catholic Daughters Society.
She was a strong-willed woman whose devotion to the church, family and close friends were of the utmost importance to her. She would always advocate the importance of taking time for prayer to insure one’s closeness to God. She had family and friends in both Oyster Bay and Wood-Ridge, NJ where she has called home for the last six years, living with her daughter and son-in-law and the family dog, Maggie. While the last few years have been difficult for her health wise, she was able to live with her daughter and be close to family and friends in New Jersey.
Family received friends at the Francis P. DeVine Funeral Home, 293 South St., Oyster Bay. Funeral Mass held at St. Dominic’s R.C. Church. Entombment Holy Rood Cemetery.
